Visions of Velata

By Robin Bethel On this early May morning, I looked out an office window to see a gorgeous spring sky with soft tufts of clouds lit by sunlight. And I thought: There’s nothing better than this. Then I realized, wait — those clouds could be marshmallows dipped in chocolate… Apparently, I’ve got Velata on the brain. But who could blame me? At the home office, we’re all thrilled about this brilliant new brand. Everything’s better with chocolate, and Velata’s a fun and social way to spread the love. And so I say, “Welcome, May!” (You’re pretty neat, even if you’re not dipped in Belgium goodness.) But most especially, “Welcome, Velata!" You’re about to deck out my world in chocolate. Velvety, pure, delicious chocolate.    If you’re as excited as I am, you probably can’t wait to host your first Velata party (and your second, your third, etc.). Every party is bound to be amazing with mouth-watering chocolate and ...

The Easter Buddy

By Elizabeth Brady, Scentsy Translation Coordinator  When I was growing up, I knew what to expect in my pretty yellow Easter basket: Peeps, Cadbury eggs, a chocolate bunny, Jelly Belly jelly beans…you get the idea. Since I come from a family of ten kids, there was always swapping and a bit of haggling with siblings; I knew I could easily get some extra Butterfinger eggs if I offered Josh some Jelly Bellys in exchange, and MariAnne would do about anything for extra Cadbury eggs. And so the years went, Easter after Easter. But this year Scentsy introduced a little somethin’ special — just in time to bring a little extra pizazz to Easter baskets everywhere! That’s right — it’s Wellington the Duck, the Easter Buddy! This adorable ducky comes with a bright yellow rain slicker so he can bundle up on these “in like a lion” March days. But don’t worry — Wellington can leave his coat inside when the sunshine coaxes him outside to frolic with his ot ...

This was the second year that Scentsy brought its corporate office to thousands of Consultants across North America, providing leadership training, business skills coaching, and a whole lot of excitement. Whether the location was Vancouver, Canada, or San Juan, Puerto Rico—or anywhere in between—there was electricity and excitement in the air.   For the Consultants who missed the event, or for the Scentsy lover who just wants an inside look, this blog post is for you. Below are quick links to the informative and entertaining video content that was part of the event, and a link to a fun and helpful PDF. The first video will give you a glimpse into our amazing history. Scentsy’s Legacy of Bootstrapping

By Elizabeth Brady, Scentsy Translation Coordinator “Hey, Elizabeth, come hold this for a sec.” I was assisting at a photo shoot when the Design Manager handed me a Baby Buddy. “Great! Now insert this Scent Pak into the Baby Buddy.” Next thing I knew, the photographer was clicking photos over my shoulder and directing me on how to aesthetically insert a Scent Pak. I had just been bootstrapped.  To bootstrap: rely entirely on one’s own efforts and resources; self-generating or self-sustaining. Basically, solving problems with what you’ve already got, instead of outsourcing or purchasing a solution or new resource. Bootstrapping is not a new concept for Scentsy. In fact, Scentsy’s history is riddled with stories of utilizing what’s available. Like the time the shrink-wrap machine broke. It was December of 2005, and Scentsy had recently moved operations into its first warehouse. Money was tight, and orders were waiting. Wax couldn’t be pac ...

Say What? When Language Translation Isn’t As Easy As It Seems

By Elizabeth Brady, Scentsy Translation Coordinator  I bet we’ve all heard at least one story about a tourist inadvertently offending locals when the tourist made a gesture that is perfectly normal in their culture, but definitely means something quite different in the place they are visiting. Hand motions can get pretty tricky when you cross cultures! (Just a tip: don’t give anyone a thumbs-up in the Middle East, use the “come here” index finger motion in Asian cultures, and it’s really for the best if you never signal for two items by holding up your index and middle finger, palm out, in the United Kingdom. Oh! And the “ok” sign of touching the tip of your index finger to your thumb and holding up the other three fingers? Just avoid that in most cultures.) Words carry a lot of implications, too. I have a friend from college who is from the United Kingdom. Whenever he would ask where the “toilet” was, invariably some freshman girl would raise ...

Scentsy Leadership Retreat 2012

By Johanna Payne, Scentsy Archivist    As I write this blog, I am sitting in the Conference Center of the beautiful Aventura Spa Palace Resort in Riviera Maya. It is a balmy 82 degrees outside and I’m watching Scentsy Consultants walk by in shorts, flip flops and t-shirts. I have to admit, this is much nicer weather than the 30 degrees at the home office in Meridian, Idaho. I am among the lucky few at Scentsy who were selected to attend Leadership. I am using this opportunity to meet Consultants and learn about their history with Scentsy. These are all vital parts of my role as Archivist. Leadership is a one week event that is held each January. Only Directors, Star Directors and SuperStar Directors can attend. It is an opportunity for attendees to receive specialized training to help them be better team leaders. It is also a time to renew friendships with their team and with other Consultants. I loved watching Consultants greet each other with hugs and smiles on the first day of L ...

That’s the Spirit! Bringing Your Best Self to the Table Every Day

By Motivational Speaker and Change Expert Connie Podesta Editors’s note: Connie was a speaker at Scentsy’s 2011 Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. Here she shares some of her New Year suggestions for Scentsy Consultants, but it’s good advice for anyone who wants to start the year off right. Wow, did I ever love my time spent with Team Scentsy!  I was moved by your energy, passion and SPIRIT for what you do. These are the differentiators that allow you to rise to the top and stay there.  And they are powerful game changers to keep in mind as you face the year ahead.  As Scentsy Consultants and entrepreneurs, you get to take a ‘sky’s the limit’ approach to life and career.  How far you go, how much you make and who you work with is entirely up to you-- which for many of you is both a blessing and a curse, right?  It’s awesome in theory but a heck of a lot of pressure sometimes. I tell you what… Here are a few ideas for keeping your ...

What is creativity?

“A pint of Pabst, please.” “Here you go. That’ll be $2.50.” “Ahh. Cheap beer at its finest. Here you go. Keep the change.” “Thank you much. Say … you wouldn’t happen to work at Scentsy, would you?” “I do. How could you tell?” “Well, to be perfectly honest, you smell like it.” “Hah. I guess that happens. Occupational hazard, right?” “What do you do there?” “I do web design for them.” “Oh … web design? It’s a pretty up-and-coming line of work, isn’t it?” “Yeah. I get to be creative, and get paid for it.” “Oh … I wish I could be creative. I can just draw stick figures … that’s all.” And the conversation continues … This interaction between myself, and someone who doesn’t consider themselves ‘creative’ happens more than you think. The five o’clock bartender, the old lad ...

Scentsy Names 2012’s Fragrance Note of the Year!

By Stephanie Finch, PR Associate For me a new year means making dozens of overly optimistic New Year’s resolutions  and reading as many trend stories as I can get my hands on—think fashion and beauty products. I’ve always wished I was part of those teams that get to “predict” the future, but I never thought I would actually be on one. Ever. But guess what? I was and I did!!   After twelve months of navigating the tricky landscape of predicting fragrance trends, Scentsy is launching ScenTrend—an annual designation of the most trend-setting fragrance note for the upcoming year.  Are you ready to know what the ScenTrend 2012 is? Drum roll please…it is Pink Pepper! I know, you’re wondering what in the world Pink Pepper is and why it is perfect for 2012. Let me tell/show you.  The Pink Pepper fragrance note is distilled from the rose-hued berries (above) from the Peruvian pepper tree and, although it has no relationship to black pepp ...

Scents-able Gift Tags

 By Stephanie Finch, PR Associate
If you’re like me, most of your Christmas shopping is done, but you still have to wrap everything. This year try something different with the gift tag—try using a Scent Circle. The best part? It doubles as a gift too! Pick a great holiday fragrance (I chose Eskimo Kiss) and gently tuck it under your ribbon. All that is left is to jot down the ‘To and From’!

If you have some Scent Cirlces whose glory days were spent fragrancing your car, you could also upcycle them into to a gift tag, sans packaging.
Your present will smell terrific, and you might just create a new Scentsy fan!
