2011: A Year of Giving for Scentsy

As the New Year approaches, we at Scentsy have been taking a little time to look back on the last year. It was a year in which Scentsy’s owners, Consultants, and employees put into practice Scentsy’s value of generosity— which we interpret as “contribute more than you take.” Here’s a look at some highlights of Scentsy’s charitable giving in 2011. In April, Scentsy’s owners Heidi and Orville Thompson presented a check for $613,177 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation from sales of Scentsy’s ‘Love. Life. Hope.’ Charitable Cause Warmer featured in the Fall/Winter 2010 Catalog. The donation was Scentsy’s largest cash contribution to date and part of the company’s overarching goal to donate $1 million to breast cancer charities across the country by 2013. The Holidays are Here!

Are you counting down the minutes to when you’ll gather around the tree with your family to open presents? Are you dreaming of a golden, juicy holiday turkey? Maybe you’re planning to stuff your turkey with a chicken and duck to enjoy a no-holds-barred turducken this holiday.   If so, bravo! Why hold back on Christmas Day? It’s always interesting to hear the holiday traditions in families other than your own. For instance, we never once carved into a turducken in my childhood home. My wholesome Midwestern clan gets together on Christmas Eve to open our Christmas jammies, and once we’re all cozy, warm, and decked out in fuzzy flannel evergreen trees or snowflakes we watch our favorite holiday movie: It’s a Wonderful Life. Scents-able Gift Tags

If you’re like me, most of your Christmas shopping is done, but you still have to wrap everything. This year try something different with the gift tag—try using a Scent Circle. The best part? It doubles as a gift too! Pick a great holiday fragrance (I chose Eskimo Kiss) and gently tuck it under your ribbon. All that is left is to jot down the ‘To and From’! 

If you have some Scent Cirlces whose glory days were spent fragrancing your car, you could also upcycle them into to a gift tag, sans packaging.
Your present will smell terrific, and you might just create a new Scentsy fan!

Fragrance 201

In an earlier blog, Fragrance 101, I discussed the basics of the scent pyramid, with top, mid and bottom notes.  In an effort to describe how we build fragrances (or balance fragrance notes within a scent pyramid) I thought I would discuss how this process was applied in the creation of Eskimo Kiss, a popular Scentsy Fall/Winter fragrance.  For most people, myself included, it helps when dominant fragrance notes are called out to help you identify what you think you smell.  This exercise will likely be more meaningful if you have a new bar of Eskimo Kiss nearby.  If not, you’ll have to use your imagination… I’m going to start with the top notes and work my way down because when you first open a bar (before even taking the wax out to put it into a warmer), this is primarily what you’re going to smell. Giving Smiles to Sick Children this Holiday

I've been with Scentsy for a little over a year—or three catalogs, depending on how you look at it. I’ve seen many great Charitable Cause Warmers and have been part of wonderful check presentations to some very deserving causes. But I have to admit I have a soft spot for Sasha. In case you don’t know, Sasha is Scentsy’s first Charitable Cause Product. No, Sasha isn’t a warmer; he’s a special Scentsy Buddy that benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities.  He happens to be my favorite: he’s super cute, plush and dressed in a bright hospital smock. We named him Sasha because it means “defender” in Russian. We like to think of Sasha as the perfect playmate, not only for kids in hospitals, but for anyone—young or old. This is the time of year when we collectively start thinking about how we can help others. We volunteer at soup kitchens, we donate to our favorite charities, we drop off much-needed items at our local homeless shelter. ...

Wordless Wednesday: A Gift that Gives Back




On Monday, a team of 30+ Scentsy Consultants in Ohio donated more than 250 Sasha The Bear Scentsy Buddies to Akron Children's Hospital.
Thanks to their donation, every child who will be spending Christmas in the hospital will receive a gift from Santa Clause on Christmas morning.

Holiday Inspiration by Scentsy

Tannenbaum: Go green this holiday season with our ode to the evergreens! Another Year, Another Holiday Coloring Contest

Childhood is full of irreplaceable memories and valuable learning experiences. This year's experience with the Scentsy Buddy Coloring Contest is no different. The lesson to be learned here is that you can’t win at everything all the time. But, in the words of Winston Churchill –

“Success is going from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm”

So to the winners - may you bask in the glory of your victory. To the non-winners – hold your head and your crayons high. It was an amazingly difficult selection process and the growth and development will make you stronger for next year. To the parents of the non-winners – Scentsy Buddys excel at comforting the downtrodden coloring warrior/princess.

No “Dangling Chads” on this Ballot

With so much fervor going on in the national political arena, it’s fun to switch gears and celebrate a voting process that’s competitive, but always good-natured! Scentsy’s Bring Back My Bar (BBMB) semi-annual election had 246 candidates which shared a whopping total of 5,086,925 votes. With the fun, new addition of baby Scentsy Buddies to the Scentsy Buddy family in the Spring 2012 Catalog, we needed to update the Scentsy Buddy website. We explored some really cool ways to craft a website that matched the level of “fun-ness” of the highly huggable, super-scented, Scentsy Buddy family.
